The “Hamsa” program was born out of a deep understanding that lone Olim soldiers need a continuous and holistic support envelope. <\/span>The name “Hamsa” is no coincidence: beyond being a symbol of luck and protection in Israeli culture, it represents a unique 5-year continuum program.
<\/p>

The program accompanies young adults from the moment they arrive in Israel, through their pre-draft preparation, throughout their service in the IDF, and a year after the end of their service as they make their first steps in re-integration in Israeli civilian society.

The project is a collaborative initiative of KKL-JNF, The Jewish Agency for Israel, and the Kibbutz Movement.

Throughout their military service, we provide continuous support for both the participants and their parents abroad. Our professional team includes multilingual coordinators and social workers. Parental support is conducted via Zoom in various languages; during challenging periods, the frequency of these meetings increases to meet their needs. <\/p>

Once a quarter, participants gather for special “Hamsa Events.” These gatherings provide an opportunity to meet fellow lone soldiers and professionals, receive enrichment content and special gifts, and explore future career paths at major corporations that host the events (such as Google, Amazon, and more).

The Hamsa program is bolstered by a dedicated team of approximately 15 Shahak volunteers \u2013 Olim students from around the world studying in diverse fields. Each volunteer personally mentors about four participants, providing close support, guidance, and tools to navigate the challenges of military service.
<\/p>

While the volunteers do not cover all program participants, they are a vital part of our broader support envelope. Their uniqueness lies in their shared experience; having been lone soldiers themselves, they deeply understand the needs, difficulties, and triumphs of the journey, offering professional, sensitive, and profoundly meaningful mentorship.
